What to Expect
Exam and Diagnosis
The first step of a chiropractic treatment is a thorough past health history and physical examination to determine an accurate diagnosis. Chiropractic physicians use hands on, evidence-based, medical and orthopedic diagnostic procedures to ensure that chiropractic is a safe and effective alternative for your condition.
There are many factors that contribute to pain, that is why at Rose City we have a dynamic approach to patient care that is completely individualized to each and every patient. Although treatments are catered to a patients individual problem, they often consist of myofascial release techniques combined with manual adjusting and exercises.
What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A chiropractic “adjustment” is performed by applying a manual, controlled force into the joints to increase motion, improve function, and also decrease pain. Adjustments can be as gentle and forceful as necessary and are totally dependent on the individuals condition and comfort level.
Chiropractic adjustments restore mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, improving nervous system functions, and decreasing degenerative changes, so the body is able to adapt to an ever-changing environment and perform at its optimal ability.
Traditionally the main focus or concern with Chiropractic has been proper alignment of the vertebrae. Now, through continual research and education, we as a profession believe that many other factors are thought to be responsible for people’s pain and dysfunction. Chiropractors are trained to effectively examine, diagnose, and treat not just spinal dysfunctions, but the soft tissue dysfunction as well.
Active Release Technique
Muscle and joint injuries do not happen independently, in other words you never have one without the other. That is why it is so important to treat both the joints and the muscles!
Active Release Technique is a form myofascial release that was specifically designed to treat soft tissue structures including muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves. This type of therapy allows the practitioner to treat the entire injured area allowing for increased range of motion and function and decreased pain symptoms.
ART uses ranges of motion to achieve effective rehabilitation of dysfunctional areas of the body. ART is practiced all across the world and is well known for its role treating IRON MAN athletes at the races across north america.
There are over 700 specified protocols to treat almost every single muscle, tendon and ligament in the body. So whether you are suffering from sore neck muscles due to sitting at your work desk or nursing a strained hamstring, this is the perfect therapy for you!
Graston technique is a patented form of instrument assisted soft tissue massage. It uses specifically engineered stainless steel tools to massage and break-up scar tissue around injured joints and muscles.
In short, every muscle in the body is encased inside several layers of a connective tissue called fascia. Marco and micro traumas to the joint and surrounding tissues cause the formation of scar tissue. This fibrous build-up will inhibit blood flow to the injured area interfering with healing and limiting proper range of motion of that body part.
Graston is especially effective at “breaking-up” this scar tissue from areas of chronic or traumatic injury and inflammation, allowing for increased blood flow and healing, thus restoring optimal range of motion.
Graston is used for a number of conditions, but this therapy is especially popular for treating tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome and working around healed surgical scars for improving range of motion.
Special Taping Techniques
Kinesio-Tape and Rock tape are specially developed tapes that can be applied to painful joints and muscles to help decrease pain and improve function. This is achieved by action of the nervous system which is stimulated by the placement of the tape. These types of tapes are unique in the way that they are stretchy and do not limit range of motion during activities, which is ideal for athletic or work performance. Both tapes allow for lymphatic drainage which will decrease swelling, as well as improved proprioception (nerve function) around the area both of which can effectively decrease pain symptoms. Tape is good for shoulder, knee and ankle injuries as well as torn or strained muscles.
Pregnancy and Webster Technique
Dr Chase is one of the few practitioners in the Interior to be a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). The ICPA is a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate practitioners on the special, evidence based treatment and management of pediatric and para-natal patients.
More than 50% of woman experience back pain during pregnancy. Chiropractic therapies can both ease discomforts during pregnancy but also encourage a natural labor.
Webster is a technique designed to restore and maintain balance in the pelvis during pregnancy. Webster treatment is intended to decrease tension on the uterus and the surrounding structures, it consists of soft tissue massage and stretching as well as gentle adjustments specified for a growing belly. This technique has been shown to aid with optimal positioning of the baby before birth as well facilitate the natural process and decrease difficulties during labor.
Pediatric and Child Care
Infants and children need chiropractic too! As a mother and practitioner, Dr. Chase is experienced in and loves working with babies and children.
Many traumas and activities can put a child’s body out of balance, starting primarily with pregnancy and the birthing process, affecting the pelvis, neck and jaw. These imbalances can contribute to an array of complications such as colic and digestive problems, breast feeding and latching issues, sleeplessness, incontinence as well as interfere with the child’s ability to reach various developmental milestones. Thus, early chiropractic evaluation and treatment can help your child to thrive, allowing them to function at their most optimal capacity.
Many parents prefer to have their children checked at various intervals throughout their childhood and into their teenage years to prevent and maintain injuries caused by sports, school and other activities.
Dr. Chase evaluates and treats each area of the body thoroughly, and requires adequate time to treat both the joints as well as the soft tissues. Patients can choose between two visit types depending on their injuries.
